A few days (read: week and a half) ago I started a new run of Sid Meyer’s Civilization V. It was mostly because I wanted to get my hold back on the basic ways of the game so I could talk a little bit of Beyond Earth before lucky number seven comes out. At the start it was a bit of a pain; my last playtime was the summer of 2023, but that was to try 5’s “weird” civ of Venice after I played the weird of 6’s Maori. Once I got the hang of it though, man does it have some awesomeness to it.

Civ VII releases gameplay showcase
We’ve learned a bit more about Sid Meier’s Civilization VII today with a gameplay showcase given by Firaxis and the Civ team. Not a lot was said, and the “gameplay” was pretty light on the actual playing of the game. We do however, know a lot more than what we did with that old teaser trailer. So set your calendars, because on February 11 of next year, we’ll be getting the newest of the Civilization franchise–releasing both on PC and console.

I was originally going to write about the various things that I wanted, and didn’t want, for Civilization 7. And I might still do that, because there are a number of things I’m wishing for. But after thinking about it a bit, there’s one thing I really, really, really want. Something that’s big enough to warrant putting it high above everything else. That one thing? Better AI.

Fresh off the release of the Rulers of the Sahara leader pack, some even bigger news was revealed: Civilization 7 is coming. As for what we know about it, well…basically its (future) existence. We have no real idea of any new or returning gameplay features, or even leaders, beyond the ones that always appear in Civ games. With not even a release date announced, though, we can assume that it’s still a ways away. It’s also pretty safe to assume that no more new content will be coming out for Civilization 6, and that Firaxis will be devoting all of its time to the next game in the series.

Civilization VI: New Frontier Pass
Four years after the original announcement of the game, the developers of Civilization VI have announced new content for the game, coming on a monthly basis for the next year.
Do I…actually want to play Civilization multiplayer?
I’ve never played multiplayer in any Civilization game, and I’ve never particularly wanted to. And that’s not too uncommon, multiplayer for the game is very different from singleplayer, so much that it almost feels like a different game. The Civilizations I Want to Play First in Civ VI: Gathering Storm
Gathering Storm, the latest expansion to Civilization 6, is out today, and in addition to the new features, I’m looking also forward to the new civs that I get to play. All nine (or I suppose eight and a half, as I’ll get into later) have something that makes them worth trying out, but there are some I want to play first. Now, keep in mind that this isn’t necessarily the best new civilizations, they’re just the one’s I want to give a try before others. I’ll get a review of Gathering Storm out as soon as I can, and you can certainly guess who I’ll be playing first to write that review.
