Nintendo has announced the Switch 2, set to release some time in 2025. Other than that, we don’t know a whole lot about what it will be.

A few things we have learned, is that it will play not only games for it, but also games for the Switch 1. In addition, it will play digital as well as physical games, something a lot less common in the 2020s. As for the device itself, it looks a lot like the original Switch in many ways, although the “standard” colour will be black, rather than red and blue. The handles also appear to snap into it, rather than sliding out the top. As long as they can safely go in and out, this is something I personally am very happy with, as my handles can have a tough time staying in, and I definitely don’t treat it poorly. The next big announcement will come during Nintendo Direct 2025, which won’t be until April 2. Whether a late year date will be announced, or we’ll be told it’s coming out tomorrow is yet to be seen, but for now we’ll have to wait with what information we’re given on the Nintendo website.
