Planet Coaster 2 announced

The thing that got me into gaming, and something that still holds a little place in my heart, is a little something called “RollerCoaster Tycoon“. So, as you can imagine, the spiritual spiritual successor to the…fallen series, a the 2016 Planet Coaster, is something, makes me pretty happy as well. That’s why I’m pretty dang excited for the announcement of Plant Coaster 2.

ed – This originally had the announcement trailer for PlanCo2 (here), but I’ve gotten permission from Jonti at Geekism, which has a lot more info, to have his video on my article instead. Enjoy!

Now, I haven’t actually played a massive amount of Planet Coaster, partly because its semi-required scenery system is a bit tough for me, although I have been upping my game, and more so that I didn’t have a computer that could run it very well until about a year ago. But I’ve gotten into it a lot more over the past few months, and it was actually the game I played before going to bed yesterday. So while the community has assumed that the sequel would be announced soon for a while now, I was still pretty excited to hear that it would be happening.

But enough about me, what can we expect from the actual game? Well, a big thing is water. Water rides, and pools, will have a lot of additions in PlanCo2. There were water rides in the original game, but they were kind of just…there. They were rides, and they were water. The new rides are actually going to be a lot more fun to work with, and drop people straight into pools, which your customers can also walk right into like a regular pool. Not only that, but lifeguards will be among the new staff, so drowning, maybe? I of course don’t want much death in a management game, but it would be a nice addition along with the water (that sounded weird).

Another big one: paths. The system for making paths in Planet Coaster 1 is a bit difficult, and in my mind is the worst part of the game. In fact, the basic MO for making wide, nice-looking paths seems to be “find a wall or roof that’s the same colour as the path and put it slightly above the ground”. We don’t actually know what it is apart from some screenshots showing paths, but it looks a heckofa lot better than the old system. Along with the water rides, we also have a lot of updates to water management. I mentioned lifeguards before, but we’ve got water buildings for changing and buying pool passes, new water themes, water getting dirty, and of course new mascots–including Queen Splash, the soggy parallel to King Coaster.

We don’t know a huge amount right now, mostly just the gameplay-light announcement trailer and some additional info provided to content creators. More is coming, though, with the game’s developers telling us something at the end of the month. We also know that it will be coming out pretty soon, fall of this year! While a game’s release is never set in stone, that’s a lot better than the “I dunno 2025 I guess” we’ve gotten from a lot of recent releases.

Are you excited about Planet Coaster 2? Have you played a lot of the original game, or even the classic “tycoon” management games, good or bad? Be sure to tell us in the comments below, or over on Facebook!
