I have a confession to make. Since my review of Victoria 3, I’ve barely played it. I’m not against the game at all, the games I play are just so long, and life is so life, I haven’t sat down to play another long game.
This is going to be just a quick article while I get some other stuff going, so don’t suspect any long stuff. Anyway, I don’t think I’m the only one that’s dropped off from Vicky. The player count, and especially the work by YouTubers and streamers, has really gone up recently. Now, this could be as a result of the recent DLC released in June, but I do know I started seeing it a bit before that. And that’s something that makes me pretty excited, because it was stating to be a game that I was worried would die.

Looking at the graph of player count, grabbed from SteamDB and started just after the post-release drop, we see something pretty impressive, and that’s a fairly close hug near or above 10k players. It started after a free play weekend last year, which may or may not have been a coincidence, and spiked again after the DLC I mentioned, but I’m still pretty happy with it. Looking before that first spike, we can see the player count slowly drifting down, with very little movement towards five digits. It’s even more apparent with content producers, who are putting out a lot of Victoria 3 work, although it’s to be taken with a grain of salt, as they are paid to play it.
At any rate, I’m super happy to see it moving up again, because it’s a game I quite enjoy. I’m hoping it stays that high; or at least high enough that Paradox, the developers, keep working on it. They kind of quit with Imperator: Rome, a 2019 game largely a flop, and I don’t want to happen with happen with Victoria. Now, Vicky‘s done way better, and they did release a recent update for Imperator even after saying they were done with it, but I was always worried that it would be going down the drain too, just a lot more slowly.
